GolfBC Championship 2017 Front 9:  Holes 10 – 18

I was ready to go. My wife, Mary, was going to watch me today, so I felt like I had to play well! I ripped driver 320 yards right down the middle. I had a great front nine, which were holes 10-18 for me. I missed a good opportunity for birdie on number 18, but did not let that discourage me at all. So, four birdies and one bogey on my front 9.

Front 9 Score = 33

GolfBC Championship 2017 Back 9: Holes 1 – 9

I made the turn and missed two putts that just hit the lip on number 1 and 2. I bogeyed 3 and 4. Both were not great shots. On hole 3, I had 140 yards from center of the fairway and pulled it left into a gopher hole. Luckily I got a free drop, but made bogey. On the 4th hole, I pulled an 8 iron left of the green on the par 3 and made a great 10-footer for bogey.

On hole 5, I got birdie.  Then, I started really pressing.  I knew I needed to finish with at least an eagle – birdie – eagle finish on last three holes. And it was not out of the question. But when I got the driveable Par 4 8th hole (295 yards), I grabbed my 3-wood and just pushed it a little right and my ball was laying right near a tree stump. I had a take a very shallow swing, so I did not hit the stump and tried to bump it up on the green. It was a difficult shot. I tried to chip it in for birdie and missed my comebacker for par. Last hole, I hit it left and pushed my second shot right. Hit a great chip and just missed the putt.

Back 9 Score = 37

The Overall GolfBC Championship 2017 Experience

In all, my tempo and swing looked great all day. There were a couple errant shots, which ended up hurting my score a bit in the end.  I came in at -2 (70). The cut was -6.

Overall, I was happy with how I played. While I wasn’t as happy with the score, there were a lot of positives throughout the day. For instance, being right there far as scores go is a good sign. I just need to finish a bit stronger mentally. Anytime I can put myself in that position, the better I am going to be. I was right there!

The next Monday qualifier for the PGA TOUR Canada is going to be in Winnipeg, MB. I’ll be sure to post that soon. Until next time.
